Job Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Platform Engineer with a strong passion for sustainability with experience in designing, building, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure platform infrastructure.

As a key member of our team, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of sustainable technology. You’ll help build and optimize infrastructure that not only delivers high performance and reliability but also aligns with our commitment to environmental responsibility and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • A Sustainable Platform Engineer is expected to blend traditional platform engineering skills with a strong focus on sustainability, environmental impact, and energy efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain sustainable IT solutions, including accelerators and patterns that promote green software principles and reduce the environmental impact of IT operations.
  • Work closely with Global SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) department and sustainability teams to align platform capabilities with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) goals.
  • Optimize private cloud resources to enhance energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support DevOps teams in monitoring system performance and carbon emissions, troubleshooting platform issues, and implementing preventive measures.
  • Automate repetitive tasks to improve operational efficiency and reduce resource consumption.
  • Stay up to date with emerging sustainable IT trends and advocate for best practices within the organization.

Key Capabilities/Experience

  • Proficient in administering both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Skilled in virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Experienced with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Strong background in containerization and orchestration using Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, and microservices architecture.
  • Proficiency in writing automation scripts using Python, Bash, PowerShell or Go is essential.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, preferably Azure.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Git, Jenkins, and Ansible.
  • Capable of analyzing and managing aggregated logs using the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana).
  • Knowledgeable in network configuration, including load balancing and firewall management.
  • Strong willingness to quickly grasp emerging tools, frameworks, and platforms relevant to platform engineering and cloud infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in designing, building and maintaining secure platform infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with experience in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Hands-on experience in Microservices Architecture, Containerization, and Orchestration.
  • Proven experience in backend development, including RESTful APIs, databases, and messaging services.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and capable of independently learning new technologies and tools (using ING-provided learning resources).
  • preferably certified CKAD /CKA.
