As Head of Market Risk Netherlands, you will lead the strategic oversight and management of ING’s market risk profile across Private Individuals, Private Banking, and Business Banking activities. This role is pivotal in steering ING’s balance sheet resilience, liquidity strategy, and interest rate risk posture in alignment with the bank’s risk appetite and business ambitions. You will report locally to the CRO Netherlands and functionally to the Global Head of Financial Risk.

This is a leadership role that combines deep financial risk expertise with business acumen, enabling you to influence executive decision-making and contribute to ING’s long-term value creation.

Roles and responsibilities

Strategic Risk Leadership

  • Shape and execute ING NL’s market risk strategy, ensuring alignment with global frameworks and local business priorities.

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the ExCo and ALCO, providing forward-looking insights on risk trends, regulatory developments, and product innovations.

  • Lead the IRRBB / ALM risk management process and provide ongoing oversight of commercial input to the process from the business and group treasury.

  • Assessment of new products and strategic initiatives through the PARP process, ensuring risk-return balance and regulatory compliance.

  • Contribute to strategic projects and programs to ensure IRRBB and ALM are continuously properly embedded in ING NL’s processes

Risk Ownership & Governance

  • Own and continuously enhance local IRRBB and ALM models, integrating customer behaviour and market dynamics.

  • Perform internal and regulatory risk reporting of asset and liability positions and associated IRRBB, funding and liquidity risk metrics including coordination with the Group.

  • Contribute to Group-wide review of Asset and Liability Management (ALM) related RAS and limits to ensure local objectives and impact are adequately considered; Monitor and review asset and liability positions, ensuring IRRBB and funding & liquidity risk profile is in line with ALM RAS limits and advise on corrective actions in case of (potential) limit breaches; monitor development of transferred risk positions against intramonth hedge thresholds.

  • Analyse impact of internal and regulatory stress scenarios to understand drivers and evolution of NII and value under adverse interest rate and balance sheet development scenarios (in collaboration with Finance); advise on corrective actions where relevant.​

  • Coordinate the local contribution to the global Contingency Funding Planning and testing.​

  • Coordinate the local ILAAP submission.​

  • Ensure ALM considerations and costs are considered in product pricing and decisions on product characteristics, acting also as a member of the weekly Pricing Committee.

  • Collaborate with Group FR on IRRBB and Funding & Liquidity policies, procedures and models to ensure local view is reflected appropriately.​

  • Collaborate with Group COO Risk and Data Management to ensure that required ALM and liquidity tooling and data is fitted to ING NL requirements.​

Capital & Regulatory Engagement

  • Drive the local market risk capital agenda, ensuring robust methodologies and alignment with regulatory expectations.

  • Represent ING NL in regulatory dialogues and internal committees, advocating for sound risk practices and business enablement.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Manage and develop a team of high-performing market risk specialists.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

We are looking for a team member with the following knowledge and experience:

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Economics, Statistics, Finance, or a quantitative field.

  • 10+ years of experience in financial risk management, combined with leadership experience.

  • Strong understanding of IRRBB, ALM, FX risk, liquidity risk, and market risk capital frameworks.

  • Capability

  •  of understanding ING NL’s products and balance sheet composition, and how they affect and translate to ING NL’s interest rate risk position and how to manage this

  • Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus.
