Role & work environment

Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) FEC-Tech is the tech backbone of the Compliance Department. We design innovative solutions, automate processes and deliver insights that help senior management to steer critical compliance decisions.

Based at the Marnix Office in Brussels, the team plays a leading role in driving change and process improvement initiatives across the department. As an intern, you will work closely with developers on high‑visibility projects that directly contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of compliance operations.

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following (non-exhaustive) overview of activities:

  • Dashboard Development: collaborate with ING developers to design, build, and implement Power BI dashboards that visualize key compliance metrics and support decision‑making.
  • Data Requests: extract, clean, and analyze data using SAS or Excel, delivering accurate and timely insights to management.
  • Quality & Documentation: ensure all deliverables are well‑structured, properly documented, and ready for production, following internal standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for optimization and provide guidance to implement best practices across processes and reporting.

As an FCC FEC-Tech Intern you will also need:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree
  • Be preferably available for a minimum of 4 months and up to 12 months, at least 4 days per week
  • Clear and effective communication skills – fluent in written and spoken English; knowledge of French and/or Dutch is a plus
  • Strong analytical mindset with a genuine interest in data analysis and processing, combined with a keen eye for detail
  • Basic to good knowledge of SAS and SQL (with an eagerness to improve)
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced functions and data handling)
  • Basic to good skills in Power BI development (with an eagerness to improve)
  • Familiarity with other software applications is a plus (e.g., PowerPoint)
  • Basic to good knowledge and/or a first expertise in the KYC domain and/or AML risk area is a plus
  • Being able to quickly integrate new concepts, procedures, modifications in the organization or methodologies
  • Being able to work within tight deadlines while maintaining quality
  • Good skill set in the areas of personal effectiveness (i.e. autonomy, team spirit, courage and self-confidence, problem solving & result oriented, “hands-on”, good written and oral communication, capable to work in changing circumstances)
