Business Manager to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) – ING Belgium

Mission

The Business Manager to the CRO supports the Chief Risk Officer by ensuring clarity, quality, and coherence across executive and governance‑level interactions.
The role focuses on preparation, content/strategy excellence, governance discipline, and executive effectiveness, enabling the CRO to engage confidently and efficiently in various executive settings.

You help transform  complexity into clear narratives, structured messages, and decision‑ready materials, while maintaining a strong awareness of risk, governance, and institutional context. The role requires a consultancy mindset: structured, fast, pragmatic, and effective in ambiguous environments with ability to work on transversal topics, but also deep dive when needed.

What do you gain in this role? The opportunity:

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the heart of executive decision‑making, closely supporting the Chief Risk Officer in a highly visible governance environment. You will gain exposure to Board‑level discussions, interactions with regulators and Group on complex risk topics and senior leadership dynamics, while developing deep expertise in executive preparation, governance quality, and content excellence. It is a role for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complexity, takes pride in high‑quality output, and wants to have tangible impact by enabling better discussions and decisions at the highest level. You will work in close proximity to senior leaders, continuously sharpen your judgement, and build a strong professional profile grounded in trust, discretion, and effectiveness.

What you will do

  • Support the CRO in preparing for Executive Board, Board, and Committee meetings by structuring briefings, speaker notes, key messages, and priority talking points.

  • Help distill extensive reading materials (often large volumes of documentation) into clear insights, highlights, risks, and areas requiring attention or challenge. Proactively review materials prepared for Boards and Committees and ensure upfront information as needed.

  • Organize and refine presentations, agendas and preparation flows to ensure the CRO’s focus remains on judgement, positioning, and decision‑making. Coordinate content within CRO MT, who will be one of the main partners.

  • Ensure the CRO’s top‑of‑mind themes are clearly articulated and consistently reflected across meetings and forums.

  • Ensure the quality, structure, and consistency of CRO‑related documents and presentations.

  • Take ownership of the formal and administrative quality of materials: clarity of language, consistency of messages, correct use of acronyms, and appropriate framing for governance settings, as well as uniform look & feel, including storyline, visuals, narrative logic.

  • Understand the appropriate governance pathways for different topics and help ensure that required processes, validations, and approvals are respected.

  • Conduct horizon scanning on emerging themes relevant to risk, governance, and executive discussions.

  • Coordinate inputs from Risk MT and other stakeholders to ensure coherent, aligned, and decision‑ready content.

  • Actively follow up with contributors to ensure agreements, actions, and deadlines are respected.

  • Facilitate offsites and events end‑to‑end, with a focus on agenda, content design linked with Top of mind themes and storyline (with support of necessary parties), not on logistics.

What we are looking for

  • A consultancy‑type profile: intellectually agile, pragmatic, fast learner, and comfortable operating in ambiguity.

  • Excellent organizational and structuring skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear speaker notes, briefings, and executive‑level narratives.

  • Advanced PowerPoint and Microsoft 365 skills (ideally including Copilot), with a strong sense of visual coherence and storytelling.

  • Solid understanding of risk and governance, or the ability to quickly acquire and apply it in practice.

  • Proactive, assertive and able to interact confidently with senior stakeholders.

  • Strong synthesis skills: able to translate complex topics into clear, concise, decision‑ready material.

  • High professional standards, discretion and reliability.
