Role Summary

As a Chapter Lead – Engineer (WB TS Reporting & Cards), you will lead and grow engineering capabilities for the Wholesale Banking domain while ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and future‑ready systems. You will guide a chapter of engineers, influence architectural decisions, drive modernization, and contribute to ING’s global engineering standards. This role places you at the heart of our international technology landscape, collaborating with global teams to build solutions that power Wholesale Banking across markets.

As part of a dynamic chapter within the WB domain, you will work closely with both local engineering squads and international Wholesale Banking teams, ensuring alignment, consistency, and high-quality delivery across the board.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a chapter of ~10 engineers, focusing on growth, coaching, and capability development
  • Drive scalable, secure, and robust engineering solutions aligned with ING’s standards
  • Own architectural and design decisions for cross-functional, multi-system platforms
  • Partner with global WB teams to deliver integrated, high-impact technology components
  • Oversee system lifecycles, from platform to middleware and database infrastructure
  • Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and risk management guidelines
  • Promote modern engineering practices including TDD/BDD, automation, and cloud awareness
  • Collaborate with Corporate Technology teams to update operational procedures and reporting
  • Stay on top of industry trends and share knowledge across your chapter

Tech Stack You’ll Work With

Backend & Middleware: Java, J2EE, Spring (Core, Security, MVC), JPA, REST, JMS, Kafka
Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
Testing & Automation: Selenium, TDD/BDD, PACT, chaos engineering
Scripting: PowerShell, Bash
Desirable: Cloud technologies, automation, advanced UI frameworks

About You

  • 8+ years in software engineering, with strong experience in Java and modern web technologies
  • Proven leadership experience: coaching, performance management, hiring, and team growth
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, especially in global and cross-functional environments
  • Hands-on experience with API design, resource modelling, and microservices
  • Solid understanding of design patterns, development principles, and engineering best practices
  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS and SQL
  • Experience across the full SDLC (CI/CD, source control, testing tools, work tracking)
  • Exposure to cloud, automation, or frontend frameworks is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills in English (C1 level)
