The role focuses on technical interpretation, governance design, risk management, and platform oversight, safeguarding ING against compliance failures, audit findings, and reputational risk. This position is a specialist lead role responsible for the technical, legal, and governance integrity of payroll. It is distinct from business‑as‑usual payroll operations and people management.

Scope of the role

The role has accountability for:

  • Technical assessment, configuration, and oversight of payroll platforms
  • Interpretation and application of Australian payroll legislation, awards, and industrial instruments
  • Design, implementation, and maintenance of payroll‑specific governance frameworks
  • Identification, assessment, and mitigation of payroll technical and legal risks
  • Payroll audit readiness and response (internal and external)
  • Continuous improvement of payroll controls and compliance processes

Key accountabilities

  • Lead technical reviews and configuration of payroll systems to ensure legislative compliance and best practice
  • Monitor payroll‑related legislative and regulatory changes and ensure timely system updates
  • Design and maintain payroll governance frameworks, policies, and control environments
  • Drive payroll audit readiness and coordinate responses to audit activity
  • Identify payroll compliance risks and implement effective, sustainable controls
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, IT, and external payroll vendors to deliver compliant solutions
  • Produce clear, defensible documentation and evidence for regulators and auditors
  • Act as a subject‑matter expert and trusted advisor on payroll technical and governance matters
