ING Australia’s Wholesale Bank is seeking a Vice President Project Finance to join our Portfolio Management team in Sydney, primarily supporting our Energy (with a strong focus on renewables) & Infrastructure coverage teams.

This is a newly created position, established to support the continued strong growth of our portfolio and deal pipeline. The role sits within ING’s global Wholesale Banking franchise, benefiting from the bank’s extensive international presence and deep expertise across renewable energy and infrastructure markets, which actively supports Australia’s expanding pipeline.

As a key member of the PM team, you will be responsible for the active management of a lending portfolio predominantly in Australia, with a primary focus on renewable energy and infrastructure. You’ll help optimise returns through strong analytics, portfolio insights, and capital velocity strategies. This is a front‑office lending position ideal for a professional passionate about portfolio performance and credit excellence. You will be expected to have experience in Project Finance or related fields. The role requires an individual who has strong analytical skills, is numerate, has strong written and oral communication skills and can work closely with others.

In this role, you will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including product and sector‑based origination teams, specialised and corporate lending Transaction Management, Capital Markets & Advisory (with a strong focus on Loan Distribution), as well as Risk, Legal, and various support teams. PM also drives key initiatives to enhance regulatory readiness, operational efficiency, and overall portfolio optimisation, giving you the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of our regional finance platform.

What you’ll do

  • As a Vice President, you will manage the full lifecycle of Project Finance transactions, including credit reviews, amendments and waivers, refinance, risk‑rating oversight, proactive covenant and performance monitoring, early‑warning identification, under‑performing or restructuring situations, and capital‑velocity initiatives such as loan sales, insurance, participations and risk transfers.
  • Act as the first point of contact for a set of portfolio clients, leading ongoing credit monitoring, analytics, internal risk reporting and other recurring portfolio responsibilities.
  • Collaborate closely with product, sector origination, structuring and transaction‑management teams, as well as other product specialists, to ensure a seamless and coordinated client experience.
  • Identify and support cross‑buy opportunities across the client portfolio.
  • Drive process improvement, standardisation and digitalisation across Lending, working jointly with Tribe Lending and other key stakeholders

What we’re looking for

  • 6+ years of relevant lending execution and/or credit analysis in the financial sector in an international wholesale banking environment , preferably within Project Finance.
  • Experience in the renewable energy or infrastructure sector. Prior exposure to other specialised lending subsectors (real estate, leveraged finance etc) is a plus but not a must
  • University degree major in business/economics, law or relevant business discipline. CFA and/or MBA a plus
  • Collaborative and inclusive team player, embracing diversity and cross-cultural awareness and able to work effectively across functions
  • Strong financial and credit analysis capabilities
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
