Market Risk & ALM Specialist

Apply now

Make an impact where it truly matters: at the heart of the bank’s balance sheet. In this role, you combine analytical depth with meaningful business impact. You translate complex financial and behavioural insights into decisions that shape risk, performance, and strategy — helping millions move forward while keeping ING’s financial foundation strong.

The team

You join an ambitious and close-knit team of around 30 specialists working at the core of ING Netherlands. Together, you steer the bank’s balance sheet and manage interest rate and liquidity risks in close collaboration with Group Treasury.

The team operates at the intersection of analytics, strategy and execution. You work on topics such as ALM, hedging and balance sheet optimization, directly influencing pricing, product design and financial performance. The environment combines operational responsibility with strategic decision-making, offering a steep learning curve, strong collaboration, and exposure to a wide range of stakeholders.

Roles and responsibilities

In this role, you take ownership of a significant part of the balance sheet and actively contribute to shaping its risk profile and performance.

  • Owning and steering a balance sheet perimeter with direct impact on financial results

  • Managing and hedging interest rate risk to deliver stable margin and Net Interest Income

  • Analysing and modelling client behaviour (e.g. prepayments, savings, non-maturing deposits) to inform risk and hedging strategies

  • Translating complex analytical insights into clear, structured recommendations for stakeholders

  • Advising business teams on pricing and product decisions, balancing commercial objectives with financial risk considerations

  • Collaborating across teams such as Finance, Risk and Treasury to drive well-informed decisions

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

  • Bringing a strong quantitative foundation, supported by an MSc or PhD in a field such as Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics or Engineering

  • 3+ years of experience in financial services (banking, insurance, consulting) with exposure to market risk, ALM / balance sheet management

  • Solid understanding of IRRBB, ALM concepts, and hedging strategies

  • Experience with behavioural models (e.g., prepayments, NMDs) is a strong plus

  • Applying analytical thinking and coding skills (e.g. SQL, Python or R) to generate insights and improve decision-making

  • Translating technical analyses into clear and impactful communication for a broad range of stakeholders

  • Building relationships and working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

  • Feeling comfortable navigating both strategic topics and day-to-day operational responsibilities

  • Being curious, eager to learn, and motivated to grow within financial risk and balance sheet management
