Intern – Global (Lending) Portfolio Management Transformation

Role
As an intern, you will support the Global Portfolio Management Transformation team in designing and rolling out a harmonized, data-driven portfolio review framework across Wholesale Banking Lending. This role offers exposure to large-scale banking transformation, portfolio management, and risk steering, and provides the opportunity to develop analytical, structuring, and stakeholder-facing skills in a global, fast-paced environment.

The team
The Global Portfolio Management Transformation team sits within Wholesale Banking Lending and is part of ING’s global Lending Transformation Program. The team is responsible for building the future Portfolio Management operating model, shifting from decentralized, file-based credit reviews to harmonized, risk-based portfolio reviews across sectors and regions. We work closely with Portfolio Management, Risk, Lending, Finance, and Data teams globally to improve portfolio insights, governance, and strategic steering of ING’s €300bn+ WB Lending portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Process & Operating Model Support

  • Help map current portfolio review processes and identify inefficiencies.

  • Support documentation of the target Portfolio Management operating model.

  • Assist with materials related to light-touch reviews, automation, and task migration.

Presentation & Governance Support

  • Help prepare presentations, steering materials, and progress updates for internal stakeholders.

  • Support governance meetings, action tracking, and coordination across workstreams.

  • Contribute to clear and structured communication of transformation initiatives.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Portfolio Managers, Risk colleagues, and Transformation team members.

  • Support timely and accurate delivery of workstreams in a global, cross-functional setting.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a BSc/MSc in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Econometrics, Data Analytics, or a related field at a reputable university.

  • Strong analytical and structuring skills; proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint (Power BI is a plus).

  • Prior experience in corporate banking, strategy consulting, or high-growth fast paced environment

  • Interest in lending, portfolio management, risk, and banking transformation.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to structure complex information clearly.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, international environment.
